2月20日に、カオリさんのクラスに同行しました。そのクラスは、毎年行われているそうで、山梨県が行う「社会人のための英語やり直し講座」の1週間コースの最後の授業でした。
毎年最後の授業はカオリさんのレッスンで今年私は時間を少しお借りして、すこし私が参加するのは2回目です。
日本で外国人として働く私の経験について話しました。
私が日本に引っ越してきたとき、この活動は、カオリさんと一緒に参加した最初の活動の一つでした。だから、1年後にまた参加できて、この1年で自分がどのくらい変わったか考えるいい機会になりました。また、英語を学びたい人や、もう一度英語を勉強したい人の話を聞くこともできました。
多くの人は、仕事やビジネスのために英語を学びたいと思っています。でも、英語は仕事をするために絶対に必要というわけではありません。かれらは外国のお客さんをもっとよく迎えたい、そして、自分のサービスや商品をもっと多くの人に知ってほしいから英語を勉強しています。
もし彼らが冷徹なビジネス視点に立っていたなら、翻訳アプリを使って外国人に商品を十分売れますでしょう？
しかし、彼らの目的はそこだけではなかった。彼らが目指したのは、外国人に対する理解を深めることだったのだ。人間と人間のコミューニケーションをできるように勉強してたかれらは。
そのような気持ちを聞くと、私はとても嬉しくなります。
同じ気持ちを持っているからです。私は自分の心にこの気持ちをずっと大切にしたい。
だから、これからも言語の勉強を続けたいです。
もちろん、まずは日本語をもっと上手にならなきゃ!
学ぶ意欲を新たにしたクララが立った。

Hello. This is Clara from Answer Knocks.
On February 20th, I followed Kaori to one of her lessons. This is a course tha is apparently held annually and was the final lesson of this one-week course is given by Kaori. The course, set by Yamanashi Prefecture, is called “English for working adults” and once again, I borrowed some of Kaori’s talking time time to talk with the students a little bit about my experiences working in Japan as a foreigner.
I think this was the first activity I took part in when I moved to Japan, so giving this speech again, a year later, was a good opportunity to reflect on how much I’ve changed in the past year. But it isn’t all about me, of course! I also too kthe time to hear from the students about their reasons to learn English right now.
Many people replied that they want to learn English for work or business related motives. But the thing is, they don’t need it in order to keep working, they want to learn; And here is the catch.
If business was the only thing inb their minds, they could just use the tools they have in the little device they carry in the palm of their hands. They study English because they want to better welcome foreign customers and because they want more people to know about their services and products. Their aim is to deepen their understanding of foreignersand improve their human-to-human communication skills.
That realization filled me with joy, because I share this feeling and don’t want to lose it.
That’s why I will continue studying different languages, and of course, the first step is to improve my Japanese.
With her motivation to learn renewed, Clara stood up.

No dia 20 de fevereiro, acompanhei Kaori a uma de suas aulas.
Este é um curso que aparentemente acontece anualmente e esta foi a última aula deste curso de uma semana, que é ministrada pela Kaori.
O curso, organizado pela Prefeitura de Yamanashi, chama-se “Inglês para adultos que trabalham” e, mais uma vez, aproveitei um pouco do tempo de fala da Kaori para conversar um pouco com os alunos sobre minhas experiências trabalhando no Japão como estrangeira.
Acho que esta foi a primeira atividade da qual participei quando me mudei para o Japão, então dar essa aula novamente, um ano depois, foi uma boa oportunidade para refletir sobre o quanto mudei no último ano.
Mas não se trata apenas de mim, é claro!
Também aproveitei o tempo para ouvir dos alunos sobre seus motivos para aprender inglês agora.
Muitas pessoas responderam que querem aprender inglês por motivos relacionados ao trabalho ou aos negócios, mas a questão é que elas não precisam do idioma para continuar trabalhando, elas querem aprender o idioma ; e aqui está o ponto crucial.
Se os negócios fossem a única coisa em suas mentes, eles poderiam simplesmente usar as ferramentas que carregam nesse pequeno dispositivo que não tiram da palma da mão.
Eles estudam inglês porque querem receber melhor os clientes estrangeiros e porque querem que mais pessoas conheçam seus serviços e produtos. Seu objetivo é aprofundar a compreensão dos estrangeiros e aprimorar suas habilidades de comunicação interpessoal.
Essa constatação me encheu de alegria, porque compartilho desse sentimento e não quero perdê-lo.
É por isso que continuarei estudando diferentes idiomas e, claro, o primeiro passo é aprimorar meu japonês.
Com a motivação para aprender renovada, Clara ficou de pé.
